Cycle to School
We are very keen on cycling at Ashley Down and Brunel Field Primary Schools. From the very youngest beginner to the experienced commuter cyclist we try to accommodate everyone. Secure parking is available at both sites for children and staff who want to cycle to school. We also provide training courses for all levels of cyclist who want to improve both their confidence and skill on a bicycle.
Off the stabiliser sessions are run occasionally on Saturday mornings for Reception to Year 2 children from both sites so that lots of parents can be around to support their children's first attempts at cycling on two wheels. They are run by trained cycling officers from Bristol City Council's Road Safety team.
Planned, supervised open playground sessions have been very popular where beginner cyclists can gain confidence by cycling in a no-car environment.
Bikeability is offered to children in Key Stage 2 during the school day and is run by the City Council's trained cycling officers. Level 1, which takes place in the school playground, is about building cycling confidence and handling skills. Level 2 takes children onto quiet local roads to introduce them to road markings and signs and provides an opportunity to develop safe cycling in real traffic situations.
